and Design Shahi Masjid is a Viceroy mosque built by Raja Ali II, ruler of Satara during 1794 A.D. It is located in the city of Satara in the state of Maharashtra in India. The mosque is an example of declining Mughal architectural style and consists of an entrance arch with a central dome. The entrance arch is decorated with a carving of a peacock on the top with small domes placed on either side. The ceiling is decorated with geometric and floral patterns. The interior walls are divided into three aisles and each aisle is adorned with arches which separate the domes. The arches are further decorated with intricate carvings of birds, creepers and flowers. The mosque also features an alcove known as Mihrab which is used to discus religious matters. A few steps ascending from the Mihrab is a raised platform in the form of a large dome. This dome was used as a lookout tower to guard the walls of the city. The Shahi Masjid was built to serve as a symbol of religious unity and harmony as the place of worship was used by different sects of Islam.
