Jama Masjid, Ajmer, is a mosque and Islamic complex located in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India. Unusually large for a mosque, it has the main mosque house flanked by two minarets and two other separate mosques. It is a major pilgrimage center for Muslims and a prominent landmark of Ajmer. The design of Jama Masjid Ajmer includes the main mosque building, four minarets around it, two other separate mosques inside the complex, and a tomb belonging to Sheikh Salim Chisti, an Sufi saint, patronized by Emperor Akbar. Constructed in 1193 by the Lodi dynasty, and later expanded by India’s Mughal emperors, the mosque has since been declared a protected monument by India’s Archaeological Survey.
