The Balban Khan’s Tomb Jamli Kamali located in Delhi is a historically significant monument that was built to honor the legacy of Balban, the esteemed ruler of the Slave Dynasty (1206-1290). It is made up of a domed chamber and is said to be one of the oldest surviving monuments in Delhi. It features some intricate marble carvings and provides a spectacular view of the surroundings. The tomb is surrounded by a wall and is located close to the mosque built by him during his reign. History:
The Balban Khan’s Tomb Jamli Kamali features an open courtyard with a central domed chamber. The chamber is clad with intricately carved white marble and has an imposing roof that is said to be about 49 feet in height. On the exterior walls of the chamber, one can find a variety of inscriptions written in the Arabic and Kufic scripts. The sides of the chamber are adorned with Tughra, which is an ornamental calligraphic emblem of the Ottoman Empire. Balban was the first sultan of the Mamluk dynasty in India who ruled the region from 1246 to 1287. During his reign, he built a number of monuments, including the Jamli and Kamali Tombs. Historians believe that the Jamli Tomb is a memorial to his queen, and that the Kamali tomb is a memorial to his beloved daughter.
