Brief History:

Şeyh Zeynep Hatun Mosque is located in Trabzon, Turkey and is an important historic monument for the city. The original structure was built in 1663 in honour of Şeyh Zeynep, daughter of the founder of the town's first mosque, Mustafa Zâkirî Efendi. The mosque underwent redevelopment in 1718 and again in 1810, but the original structure is still evident. The mosque hosts the majority of Friday prayers near the main square of Trabzon. It is now a listed cultural monument of local importance and has become one of the most visited sites in the city. The mosque features a large courtyard, a single-domed minaret, an ablution fountain, a prayer hall and a pulpit. The interior also houses a number of wall paintings and pottery of the 18th and 19th centuries. It is one of the most famous mosque in Turkey which you must visit.

Architecture:

The Şeyh Zeynep Hatun Mosque, located in the city of Trabzon, in the modern country of Turkey, is an example of the Ottoman İznik tile style architecture. Constructed in the 16th century, it is one of the oldest mosques in the city and is well-known for its beautiful turquoise tiles. The mosque has a single dome (göbeği) that is supported by four marble pillars and eight decorative columns. Inside the mosque, there are four small rooms that are positioned in an east-west direction, with the mihrab, minbar, and qibla wall located toward the south side. The portico of the mosque is decorated with turquoise and cobalt blue tiles which were stamped with the "blue tulip" design that was popular in the Ottoman Empire. The rest of the mosque interior is covered with blue, red, and yellow tiles that depict vegetal medallions, geometric motifs, and depictions of Ottoman leaders. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

Transportation The Şeyh Zeynep Hatun Mosque is located in Trabzon, Turkey. The easiest way to reach the mosque is by a taxi as it is not in the city center. The approximate fare from the city center is 25 TL. The taxi will drop you off directly at the entrance to the mosque. Another option is to take public transport. From the city center, you can take bus number 9 to the stop at Mağazalar Cad. From there you can take a short 10-minute walk to the mosque.
