The Hamza Bey Mosque (also known as the Gaziemir Great Mosque) is an Ottoman era mosque in the Gaziemir district of İzmir, Turkey, dating back to the 16th century. It is considered one of the most important monuments in the city. The mosque was constructed in 1591 by Grand Vizier Hamza Bey and was also known as Hamzabey Mosque. The mosque is built in traditional Ottoman and Islamic-style, featuring a single courtyard surrounded by an arcade of horseshoe arches along each side. There are six small domes on the flat roof of the main prayer hall, with a central dome 32m high, 20m above the ground. The minaret is the most striking feature of the mosque. It has a height of 48m and consists of four balconies, each with its own unique decoration. It is decorated with ceramic tiles in blue and white colours, as well as arabesque motifs. The mosque interior is richly decorated with stunning calligraphic inscriptions. In addition, it has one of the finest collections of marble inscribed minber (pulpit) and mihrab (niche) in the Ottoman style.
