Architecture:

Yıldız Hamidiye Mosque is located in Yıldız Park, Istanbul, Turkey. The mosque was built in 1886 and designed in the style of the Ottoman Empire by the court architect, Karabet Balyan. The building is a blend of the classic Ottoman and neo-classical architecture. It is constructed from cut stone with a central dome set between two slightly tapered minarets. The interior of the mosque is dominated by a large central dome that is supported by four supporting semi-domes. This central dome is surrounded by a pattern of stars and is supported by a rectangular ribbed vault. The entrance to the mosque is flanked by two triple-arched portals. Other architectural features include surrounding lower arches and ogee arches, which are supported by engaged columns with circular bases. The main prayer hall also has a prayer dome and a mihrab, which stands out against a star-studded dome. The walls are lined with exotic patterns such as flowers and vegetal patterns, calligraphy and miniature illustrations. The mosque is illuminated by natural light that streams in through windows. The lighting system in the mosque is made up of four main light wells. These light wells allow light to reach all four corners of the mosque. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
