Ulu Mosque (Grand Mosque) is one of the oldest mosques in Adana, Turkey. Located in the heart of the city, it was built in the 14th century by the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat. The Seljuks of Anatolia adopted the classical Turkish architectural style of Anatolia’s Seljuk period and gave Ulu Mosque a typical Islamic design. It has three main sections: the entrance hall, the covered hall and the prayer hall. The exterior of the mosque is covered in marble and ceramic tiles and ornamented with a mihrab that is decorated with beautiful calligraphy. Architecture:

The Ulu Mosque of Adana is a historic Ottoman mosque located in the city of Adana, in southeastern Turkey. Built in 1525 during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, the mosque is renowned for its unique architecture and splendour. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of Ottoman Islamic architecture. The mosque is constructed in the traditional Byzantine style of building, characterised by a central dome, four corner towers, a rectangular prayer hall and porticoes. The building consists of two floors and measures 33 metres (108 feet) in length and 22 metres (72 feet) in width. The main entrance to the mosque is located on its western wall and is marked by a pair of grand archways expertly decorated with filigree and covered with gold leaf and turquoise tiles. The entire structure is built from stone and brick with a number of semi-domes adorning the top of the walls. The interior design is simple and elegant, featuring intricate geometric patterns carved into the plasterwork. The mosque contains a single large prayer hall covered by a rib-vaulted dome, which is supported by 4 large pendentives at the centre of the building. This dome is then surrounded by an arcade of 16 open arches. The minaret is located on the northeast side of the building and is decorated with green and blue glazed ceramic tiles. The Ulu Mosque is an impressive and majestic building which deserves its place amongst the finest examples of Ottoman Islamic architecture. Travel by Car: To get to Ulu Mosque from Adana, take the D400 highway heading north out of Adana. Keep driving until you reach the village of Hasanağa, where the mosque will be visible on the left. Travel by Train: The nearest train station to Ulu Mosque is located in Hasanağa, about 4.5km from the mosque. From there, you can take a taxi or walk to the mosque. Travel by Bus: To get to Ulu Mosque from Adana, take the Metrobus M2 bus from Terminal 1 or from the Eshab-ı Kehf station.
