Brief History:

: The Şehitlik Mosque is located in the historic Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, Turkey. It was built in 1826 by Sultan Mahmut II as a memorial for the Ottoman soldiers who died in the Battle of Kadıköy during the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829. The mosque is known for its unique architecture and impressive exterior. It features two minarets and a large dome in the center. Inside, there is a large prayer hall, adorned with intricate mosaic tiles from the 19th century. The mosque also contains a number of tombs belonging to the soldiers who died in the battle. It is one of the most famous mosque in Turkey which you must visit.

Architecture:

The Şehitlik Mosque, or Şehitlik Camii, in Istanbul was built in 1663 during the reign of Sultan Mehmed IV and is an imperialist style mosque. The mosque is located in the Uskudar district, and is one of the largest mosques on the Asian side of Istanbul. Its architectural style is a mixture of Ottoman and baroque elements. The mosque was built with two minarets, two adhan halls, and two madenas (oratories). The walls of the mosque are made of stone, and the interior is adorned with marble and decorations. The mosque's large dome stands 40 meters high and has a unique structure, being made up of 22 pendentives, with the upper portions of the walls protecting the structure from rain and strong winds while allowing natural light to enter. The mosque is surrounded by a wide courtyard, and the interior contains many tombs of Ottoman dignitaries and warriors, as well as large chandeliers. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
