Brief History:

Puthan Palli Mosque (also known as Tali Mosque) is a mosque located in Kozhikode, Kerala, India. This is one of the oldest mosques in South India. It was constructed in the 16th century CE during the reign of the Samoothiri (Zamorin) of Calicut. The exact date of the declaration of Puthan Palli as a masjid or mosque is not known, but local folklore suggests that it was declared as a mosque by Samoothiri and his relative' Faizi 'during their second visit to Calicut in 1510. Puthan Palli was built in a traditional Kerala style, featuring large Moorish domes, traditional timber pillars, and a small pond for ablutions before presenting oneself for prayers. It also has a cemetery in the premises. The premises also contain a monument dedicated to renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Zainuddin, known as Zainul Sheikh. The Puthanpalli Mosque is located in the city of Kozhikode (formerly Calicut) in the state of Kerala, India. It is an ancient mosque of Indo-Islamic architecture built using blocks of laterite stone. The mosque is rectangular in shape and is composed of a prayer hall, a zenana mosque and three minarets. The façade of the mosque is dominated by an arched mihrab over two double-story wings flanking the entry vestibule. The walls are pierced with a series of arched windows and surmounted by merlons. The interior of the mosque is painted and a series of slender minarets line the corners of the hall. The floor of the mosque is made of neatly polished granite slabs and is embellished with intricate geometric designs. Above the entrance into the prayer hall are two Islamic inscriptions in Arabic calligraphy. The mosque is a well-preserved ancient structure and is a symbol of communal harmony and coexistence.
