Shahzadi ka Roza In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
Shahzadi Ka Roza is an ancient architectural structure and a sacred pilgrimage site located near Ajmer in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is believed to be the burial site of a princess who was the daughter of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The structure is an impressive blend of Islamic, Rajasthani, and Mughal architectural styles. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The structure features intricate arches, domes and jharokhas with ornamented yellow sandstone. The structure is shaped like a octagon and is surrounded by a high wall of red stone. Inside the shrine, two marble graves and a white marble inscription can be seen that are believed to belong to the princess. The main door of the sarcophagus (cenotaph) is made of highly ornamented teak. The walls of the structure are adorned with figures of holy men and women from different religions. Interesting facts:
The local residents believe that on special occasions, Jahanara Begum appears in a palanquin of flowers accompanied by her maidservants. Some believe that the cenotaph at the shrine is the resting place of the princess though this is disputed.
