Brief History:
Al-Sufara Mosque is situated in the Seef District of Bahrain, Al-Sufara Mosque is a famous Shia mosque, and it was constructed in the year 1954 and inaugurated in the year 1955. The Al-Sufara Mosque was built with the help of renowned Bahraini businessman Sheikh Salah Al-Khalifa who funded it. The mosque was built using traditional Islamic architectural designs by skilful artisans from Bahrain and other Arab countries. The Al-Sufara Mosque comprises of three floors, the first floor consists of an entrance lobby, a staircase, an open courtyard, a prayer hall, a seminary, a book store, a library, and an open dome in the centre. The second floor of this mosque includes a rooftop with a domed roof, and the third floor houses the minaret. The Al-Sufara Mosque is used by a large number of Bahraini people to worship and take part in events. This mosque is especially known for its open dome, which is used for a variety of activities such as speeches, lectures, and seminars. The Al-Sufara Mosque is a traditional style mosque located in the central district of Muharraq, in the country of Bahrain. The mosque was constructed in 1915 and is one of the oldest mosques in Bahrain. The Al-Sufara Mosque follows an original traditional Arabic design. The main building is a large open-air courtyard with four porticoes located at each corner. These porticoes are all aesthetically and architecturally unique and give the mosque an ornate and classic feel. The center of the courtyard also features a large domed prayer chamber with a qibla wall indicating the direction of prayer. Bordering the prayer chamber are several arched columns, each adorned with intricate decorative motifs, creating additional statuesque design elements. Smaller prayer chambers, as well as a minaret, are also located on the sides of the main building. These smaller factions of the mosque house additional prayer and study halls, making it easier for worshippers to congregate and come to prayer. The exterior of the mosque is also adorned with beautifully carved wooden doors and intricate balustrades. These grand entrances are crafted with ornate detailing, highlighting the region's rich traditional architecture and design. The overall architecture of the Al-Sufara Mosque is a combination of traditional Arabic design, with a classic modern touch, making it a favorite location for worshipers in Bahrain.
