Sufala Mosque is a mosque located in the city of Manama, Bahrain. The mosque is named after Sufala bin Ali bin Mohammad Al Khalifa, who was the ruler of Bahrain from 1797 to 1837. He was the grandfather of the ruler that eventually established Bahrain as a modern state. The mosque was built by him and was completed in 1799. It is considered to be the oldest mosque in the country. The mosque underwent major restoration work in the 1980s. The mosque has two large halls, and the minaret has five stories. The marble-covered walls of the mosque are decorated with intricate Arabic-style script, while other decorative features include elaborate calligraphy and a large central dome. The main prayer hall consists of four corners, each of which is adjoined by a room for the daily congregation. There are also auxiliary rooms for adhan (the Islamic call to prayer), ablution and an arched entryway. Additional features of the Sufala Mosque include a minaret, a cloistered garden, and a library. The Bait Al Sufala Mosque is open to visitors from Sunday to Thursday, 10am - 11am (for women) and 4pm - 5pm (for men).
