Brief History:

Al-Fateh Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, is located in Manama, the capital city of Bahrain. Built in 1987 and named after the founder of modern Bahrain, Shaikh Ahmed Al Fatih, it is a symbol of Bahrain’s Islamic heritage. The mosque was designed by renowned Iranian architect Mohsen Foroughi and is a beautiful blend of classic and modern Islamic architecture. The structure is a masterpiece of yellow and white limestone tiles and blue mosaics. The building also houses the world’s largest dome, measuring 33.60 meters in diameter and composed of aluminum, steel and toughened glass. Al-Fateh Grand Mosque offers two levels of worshipping space which can accommodate up to 7,000 worshippers. It also has a large library and a center for Islamic studies and lectures. Architecture:

The Al-Fateh Grand Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world. It is located in the capital of Bahrain – Manama, and covers six thousand square meters (6,500) making it one of the largest mosques in the world. It can accommodate up to seven thousand worshippers. The mosque is built on an octagonal base and its dome is made of two-thirds of aluminum and one-third of fibers, resting on forty-four square meters of marble base. The dome is the world’s largest; it measures fifty-three meters in diameter and mesure one-hundred and forty-nine feet in height. It is made from teakwood, and a single minaret measuring ninety-one meters in height is propped up against its exterior. The building is composed of four inner and four outer halls, constructed in traditional Islamic architecture featuring highly decorative interiors rich with arabesque designs, intricately carved cedar doors, and huge marble pillars. The walls are adorned with verses from the Quran and the floors are covered in Persian carpets. In addition to the conventional Islamic features, the mosque has a number of modern features too, such as air conditioning, telecommunications, and a public address system. The mosque was completed in 1987 and is open to all regardless of religion. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

Visiting Hours:

The Al-Fateh Grand Mosque is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, from Sunday to Thursday. On Fridays, it is open from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and then from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The mosque is closed on Saturdays.
