Brief History:
Muharraq Grand Mosque is the oldest and largest mosque in Bahrain, located in the ancient city of Muharraq. It is an iconic landmark of Muharraq, and its construction dates back to the pre-Islamic era. The mosque is believed to have been built in the early 18th century CE, during the rule of the Al Khalifa family, and is closely linked to the history of Bahrain. It is also believed to have been one of the first buildings of this kind in the whole of the Arabian Gulf. The building underwent extensive renovation in the early 2000s, and now stands as a beautiful example of Islamic architecture. The exterior is characterized by a high white dome with multiple smaller domes around it, and an old minaret. The interior is decorated with intricate, handcrafted decorations, making it a breathtaking sight. The Muharraq Grand Mosque in Bahrain is a stunning example of traditional Islamic architecture, built in the 19th century. Other features of the mosque include four smaller minarets, providing a sense of balance to the overall layout. Within the mosque itself, the main prayer hall is covered by a magnificent dome and surrounded by four ornate arches. Inside, natural light floods in through ornate stained glass windows. Visiting Hours:
The Muharraq Grand Mosque is open from 8 am to 12:30 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm daily. The mosque is closed on Fridays for special Islamic prayers. People of all religions are welcome to visit the mosque; however, they must dress respectfully and follow the etiquette.
