The mosque features two minarets on the corners of the main entrance. The entry courtyard is surrounded by five domes atop four pillars. The interior prayer hall is decorated with grand arches, geometrical decorations, technicolor stained glass windows, and others. On the main prayer hall, there is also a mihrab, which is an elevated niche that is intended to be used by Muslims while facing the direction of the holy city of Mecca. Other features include a marble pulpit, a glass chandelier, and a wooden screen. The mosque can accommodate over five thousand devotees for praying and can easily be accessed from the nearby residential areas. The Al Hajiyat Mosque is located in A’ali, in the Central Governorate of Bahrain. It is located near the Sultan bin Hassan Roundabout on both sides of the Sheikh Khalifa Highway. It is one of the largest and most important religious monuments in Bahrain and is one of the few architectural masterpieces in the country. The mosque was constructed in 1979 and officially opened in 1981. It was built by Sheikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa and is designed with a blend of Arab and Islamic style architecture. The building itself is surrounded by water, giving a unique perspective to the structure and visitors. The mosque consists of three main components: the courtyard, the minaret, and the main mosque itself. The complex also includes a library, a museum, and administrative quarters. The mosque’s main dome is one of the biggest domes in Bahrain. It is decorated with ornate motifs of flowers, stars, and crescent moons. There is also a prayer hall that can accommodate up to 900 worshippers. The courtyard has four entrances and is used for prayers. Inside, the grand hall consists of a vast space with a geometric patterned floor, and a chandelier in the center. Other features of the interior decorations include colorful carpets and intricate wooden designs on the doors and pillars. The mosque is surmounted by a tall minaret standing at 39 meters. The mosque is open every day from 8am to 12pm for visitors wishing to explore the majestic architecture of the Al Hajiyat Mosque in Bahrain.
