Brief History:
Al-Adliya Mosque in Bahrain is one of the country’s oldest and most important places of pilgrimage and worship. The mosque was built in the 19th century and its construction is attributed to the Al Khalifa family, the ruling family of Bahrain. It is the traditional site for Friday prayers for the local Shi’a population and it is located in the Adliya district of Manama. The mosque features an 11 meter high minaret and a prayer hall which can accommodate up to 3,000 worshippers. It underwent renovation and expansion work in 2002 to make it more accessible and modern. It is one of the most famous mosque in Bahrain which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al-Adliya Mosque in Bahrain is a large, elegant four-storey structure featuring multiple minarets, a large golden-domed roof, and gorgeous stone façade. The mosque has been designed in the Bahri style of Islamic architecture which is all about beauty, symmetry, and harmony, and is heavily influenced by Persian and Mughal architectural elements. The mosque is decorated with calligraphy, floral motifs, and geometric patterns of various shapes. Inside the mosque, visitors are able to enjoy a large prayer hall and a grand entrance with two rows of arches. The interior is adorned with colorful lighting, intricate marble decoration, and elaborate Muqarnas and Arabesque designs. There is also a grand mihrab in the central area of the mosque, and other smaller mihrabs in the four corners of the main hall. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

By Bus: Buses from all parts of the city stop at the nearby Bab Al Bahrain station. From there, it is a 10-minute walk to the mosque. By Taxi: Taxis are available from all parts of the city and can take you directly to the mosque. Opening Times: Al Adlyia Mosque is open for visitors on all days except Friday.
