Brief History:
Dar Kulaib Mosque is a historic mosque located in Bahrain, in the southwestern part of the country. The mosque is believed to have been built during the reign of Sultan Hassan bin Suleiman who ruled in the region in the 13th century. The mosque was named after its founder, Sheikh Kulaib Al Jobrani. According to legend, Sheikh Kulaib, who was a pious and religious man, used to stop on his travels for prayer in this area of Bahrain. The mosque was renovated in the 18th century and has since become a popular pilgrimage site for Muslims from around the world. It is said to contain the graves of some renowned personalities from the region. It is one of the most famous mosque in Bahrain which you must visit.
Architecture:
Dar Kulaib is a mosque located on the outskirts of Al Muharraq in Bahrain and considered the oldest mosque in the country. It was founded in the 12th century AD by Bahrain’s first Emir, Abu Abdulaziz bin Rashed. The mosque is made up of a structure of two-storeytall arches and pillars that surround the entire building. The mosque architecture is also highlighted by intricate geometric designs, specific to Islamic architecture. The interior design of the mosque has a simple yet captivating style, consisting of a central hall and four "iywans". An iwan is a kind of semicircular room, used for gatherings and prayer. The mosque also includes an ablution pool located near the entrance. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
