Brief History:
is an Islamic place of worship located in the residential area of Zayed Town on the northern coast of Bahrain. Designed by architect Rafic Farid Bhayat, the mosque was commissioned by the late Sheikh Isa bin Salman al Khalifa in 2002. The mosque has several impressive features, including a large dome and four minarets.It is a contemporary example of traditional Islamic architecture and is decorated with traditional patterns. The interior has intricate marble work, prayer rugs and a grand chandelier. The mosque can accommodate up to 1,000 people and offers a variety of activities, including five daily prayers, spiritual lectures, Quran classes and a variety of activities for children. Architecture:
The Zayed Town Mosque in Bahrain is a contemporary architectural structure with traditional elements. Its mixture of modern and traditional design serves to bridge old and new cultures. The mosque is a large rectangular building that sits atop two levels of stepped terracing. The terracing is landscaped with Date palms and other local trees. Around the terrace are two small reflecting pools which help to naturally cool the external space. The structure is clad in a blue and white marble façade that blend with the surrounding environment. Inside the building the plan follows a traditional Islamic design with two prayer areas for men and women separated by a central courtyard. The vaults of the ceiling are decorated with gold detailing and geometric patterns while the main doors and walls feature intricate relief designs. At night the mosque is lit up from multiple sides, which creates a stunning effect. The building is also equipped with solar LED lamps which reduce electricity consumption. In addition, the mosque's insulation and thermal mass limit air conditioning requirements. Overall, the design of this mosque is aesthetically pleasing, energy efficient, and reflects the unique nature of Bahrain's culture and architecture. Visiting Hours:
The opening hours of the Zayed Town Mosque in Bahrain are: -Weekdays (Saturday-Thursday): 7:00am - 12:30pm and 4:00pm - 10:00pm -Friday: 2:00pm - 10:00pm The mosque is closed to visitors from 12:30pm - 4:00pm each day except for Friday, when visitors are not allowed until 2:00pm. The Zayed Town Mosque is located at Atfal Al Khaleej Avenue in Manama, Bahrain. Visitors to the mosque can access the mosque by car or public transportation. The closest bus stop is Manama Al Alawi at the corner of Atfal Al Khaleej Avenue and Al Atfal Avenue. Taxi services are also available. The mosque was built in 1999 and is considered one of the most important Shi'ite religious sites in Bahrain. The mosque features a large prayer hall, a women's area, and a courtyard. The main entrance is located on the east side of the mosque and there is a lobby where visitors can buy prayer mats and other items related to the mosque. The Zayed Town Mosque is open for prayer at the following times: Friday prayers (Jummah)–1:00 pm–2:30 pm; Regular Prayers–5:30 am, 12:30 pm, 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm; and Sundays–9:00 am and 1:00 pm.
