Brief History:
Al Mawalih West Central Mosque is the only mosque in Oman that is in the centre of a West Central region (Tarim,Yahwar). This mosque was built during the reign of Sultan Qaboos in 1974 as part of his efforts to develop and modernise religious infrastructure in the Sultanate of Oman. This mosque covers an area of 2,400 m² and has the capacity to accommodate 1,000 worshipers at a time. The mosque was refurbished in 2017 and has now become a main centre of worship in the western part of Oman. The mosque has a main prayer hall, several side rooms, a library and a canteen. It also has a mihrab, pulpit and a minaret for the adhan, the call for prayer. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Mawalih West Central Mosque was built in 2004 and is located in Muscat, Oman. Its local architectural style is referred to as “Traditional Omani” and was designed by Ahmad Bin Salim Al Farsi. The mosque’s main feature is the large central dome, which is framed by four minarets. The dome is made of materials such as white marble, which gives it a stately appearance. The mosque also has a large prayer hall with decorated arches surrounding it, which are decorated with intricate floral designs. Additionally, the mosque features a green marble pool in front of it, adding a touch to the beauty of the building. The outside walls of the mosque are also elaborately decorated with various traditional designs. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
