Al Qalhat Mosque is located in the ancient city of Qalhat in Muscat Governorate, Oman. It is the oldest surviving mosque in the country, dating back to the 12th century. The mosque is made of coral stone and is stepped in a typical Omani design. It has a simple rectangular prayer hall and can accommodate around thirty worshipers at a time. The mosque was built by Imam Sultan bin Saif bin Malik Al Khuzami, a ruler of the Al Khuzami dynasty who reigned in Qalhat from the 11th to early 12th century. After the decline of Qalhat in 1335, the mosque fell into disrepair. In 1977, it was renovated and is now a major tourist attraction in the region.
