The Al Kamil West North South East Mosque in Oman is a contemporary structure with referencing mechanisms to traditional Islamic architecture. The mosque has four minarets placed at the cardinal points of North, South, East and West and an impressive arched entrance on the south side. The roof is composed of two large domes, representing the two main communities of Oman, the Sunni and Shia Muslims. The internal main prayer hall is characterised by an open plan, with two lines of twenty-four supporting pillars. At the center of the prayer hall is the Mihrab, a pointed arch indicating the direction of prayer. There are several small prayer rooms located on the peripheral areas of the mosque. The mosque also includes a social area and a terrace garden where visitors can enjoy the serene atmosphere offered by the surrounding palm trees.
