Architecture:

The Al Salamah East Mosque in Oman is a large and unique structure that stands as a symbol of the unity between the Islamic faith and Omani culture. The mosque was designed by Saudi architect Hussein Kawwam and completed in 1982. The mosque is made up of a set of three concentric circles that span 600,000 square meters and feature more than nine hundred and sixty-five peaks. The thick walls and compact design make the mosque resilient to earthquakes and storms. The mosque consists of a vast central courtyard surrounded by a number of smaller prayer halls spread across two upper levels. On the eastern side of the courtyard is the main hall with three entrances; two of which lead to the ground-level prayer halls. The main hall can accommodate up to three thousand worshippers and is similar to the interior of the Grand Mosque in Medinah, Saudi Arabia. Inside the main hall is an ablution fountain, followed by a series of columns on each side. On the opposite side of the courtyard is an enormous domed prayer hall, which is the central feature of the mosque. This hall has an area of almost 12,000 square meters and is surrounded by a series of columns which act as supporting structures for the main dome. The dome is supported by eight half-circle vaults, which further increase the stability. There are also four minarets at the corners of the courtyard, which are used for providing a call to prayer. The design of Al Salamah East Mosque is a combination of traditional Islamic and Omani architectural elements, making it a great example of the fusion of two unique cultures. Even today, it stands as a testament to the harmonious relationship between these two cultures. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
