Brief History:
Al Kharjiyah South East Mosque is a historic structure located in the wilayat of Muscat in Oman. It was built during the time of Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Ya'rubi in the late 18th century. The mosque is one of the oldest in Oman, and has been recently renovated. It is a two-storey building, made of mud and stone, and has one of the few remaining examples of traditional Omani architecture. The mosque’s interior is decorated with stucco plaster, with a curtain of black fabric draped around the walls, and a marble-slabbed floor. The mosque also features a semi-circular Mihrab niche in the centre of the room, and a minbar in the back, from where the Imam can give a sermon. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Kharjiyah South East Mosque is a mosque located in Ibri, Oman. The design of the mosque is based on traditional Omani mosque architecture with a mix of Arab and Islamic influences from different regions. The mosque facade is composed of two tiers of pointed arches characterized by its narrow, deep chamber. The outer facade is made of white limestone. Its minaret is placed to the north-west corner and stands out from its surrounding due to its size and its ornamental detailing. The interior walls are decorated with ornamentation and carvings, which reflect the heritage and culture of Oman. The central prayer hall is rectangular and is covered with a large dome. Numerous traditional stained glass windows provide ventilation and light to the hall. These elements all work together to reflect the ancient culture and architectural traditions of Oman. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
