The Al Mazunah West South North Mosque in Oman is an architectural gem of superb beauty, built in the traditional Omani style. The mosque features a large central dome rising above a barrel vaulted prayer hall and entrance, with smaller domes at the four corners. The building consists of a rectangular prayer hall with four iwans, or arcaded chambers, one in each corner. The northern iwan opens into the central dome and the other three open onto a large open-air courtyard. The western and eastern iwans have two doors, while the southern iwan has only one. The interior is decorated in vibrant colored tiles and intricate carvings which depict Islamic images, calligraphy and inscriptions. The facade is also decorated with intricate ornamentation including Islamic texts and abstract designs. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
