Brief History:

Al Quriyat East Mosque is located in the city of Quriyat in the Al Wusta region of the Sultanate of Oman. It was built during the reign of Sultan Qaboos in 1978. The mosque was designed by Perkins+Will London Office in a dramatic masterplan which included a new mosque, shopping mall, school, and medical centre. The mosque is surrounded by a set of traditional sandstone houses, showing the timeless heritage of Oman. Inside, the ceiling of the main prayer hall reaches 12 metres, and is decorated in a typical Sultanate style, with intricate geometric patterns and colourful glasswork. Above the main prayer hall is a spectacular blue dome, echoing the rich heritage of decorative and ornamental artwork of traditional Omani mosques. The Al Quriyat East Mosque in Oman is a modern and minimalist mosque built in 2018, located between two mountains. The mosque is known for its modern design and use of sustainable materials. The architecture of the mosque features curved lines, geometric forms, and whitewashed walls and a roof of curved concrete. The building consists of two main parts: the main prayer hall and the minaret. The prayer hall is an open-plan structure, with four convex concrete walls and four corner domes. The central dome stands 21 meters tall and is made of two intersecting arches, which give the building a unique, modern appearance. The interior of the prayer hall features a large, geometrically-shaped, five-meter-high mausoleum, lined with hand-carved marble and gold finishes. An Islamic call to prayer (Adhan) is broadcast from the central dome of the building. The minaret of the mosque stands at 45 meters tall and is structured around eight, tapered columns. The minaret also houses two balconies and a loudspeaker, used to broadcast the Adhan. In addition to the modern design, the minaret is also covered with sustainable materials such as palm wood, which helps it to blend in with its surroundings. By Car: The mosque is located along Sultan Qaboos Street, or Highway 17, which is the main highway connecting Al Quriyat City with Muscat. Visitors driving from Muscat should take the first exit after crossing Al Quriyat Bridge and follow the signs to get to the mosque. By Bus: Local bus services run from Muscat to Al Quriyat. Visitors should board a bus to Al Quriyat from the Al Khuwair bus station and get off at the bus stop near Al Quriyat Bridge. From there, visitors can take a taxi to reach the mosque. By Taxi: Taxis are available from Muscat to Al Quriyat and can be taken directly to the mosque. The approximate cost of a taxi from Muscat to Al Quriyat is 45 OMR. beautiful masjid.
