: Al Buraymi South West Mosque is a historic mosque situated in Buraymi Governorate in the Al-Dhahira region in northern Oman. It is one of the oldest mosques in the country, dating back to the late 19th century. The mosque has served as a place of worship and learning for generations of Omani people. Architecture:
The Al Buraymi South West Mosque is located in the northern governorate of Al Buraymi, Oman. The main structure of the mosque is a multi-domed edifice, constructed from bricks, mud-bound clay blocks, and natural stone, and decorated with plaster and cedar wood. The mosque features a courtyard surrounded by a central mosque, a four-minaret prayer hall, two side-halls, and an ablution area outside the courtyard. The four small open-air minarets are perpendicular to the central mosque, and they house four spiral staircases. Each minaret has a series of paired windows, and a low door entrance that leads to the spiral staircases. The interior of the mosque is composed of a large interconnecting hall, surrounded by two side-halls and ablutions areas. The main prayer hall is rectangular in shape, and features an arched entrance. Inside the prayer hall, four mihrabs are featured, built in the cubic style with sebka decoration and a cedar wood entrance. The walls of the prayer hall are painted with geometric patterns in white, yellow, and ochre tones. In the center of the prayer hall, a wooden pulpit is set upon a low square platform. The mosque also features a long roofed porch, set upon four pillars that mark the entrance to the abode. The porch is enclosed by an iron grill, and is reached through wooden gates at either end. The exterior of the mosque is defined by a single large dome, which covers the entire edifice and is constructed from brick and stone. The dome is encircled by four small cupolas and four turrets, which are decorated with terracotta tiles. The walls of the mosque are also decorated with terracotta tiles and white plaster. The mosque is illuminated at night with lanterns, which are installed along the walls and within the towers. The aesthetic of the mosque reflects its cultural and historical significance in Oman. Prayer times are as follows: Fajr prayer starts at 05: 00 am, Dhuhr Prayer at 12:15 pm, Asr Prayer at 3:45 pm, Maghrib Prayer at 6:00 pm and Ishaa Prayer at 7:15 pm.
