The Al Batinah South North Mosque is a late 19th century mosque located in the Wilayat of Sohar, in the Batinah Governorate of Oman. The mosque was built by Sheikh Ali bin Juma bin Muhammad al-Busaidi in the late 19th century and is one of the most important historic mosques in the Wilayat of Sohar. It is considered to be a symbol of the ancient Omani Islamic culture. The mosque underwent some renovations and restorations in 2012 and 2016. The Al Batinah South North Mosque is a Bahraini-styled Ottoman period mosque located in Sohar, Oman. The mosque was constructed between 1895-1897, and serves as an important part of Oman’s history. The mosque is built of brick and stucco, and includes two minarets. The interior of the mosque is an open space, with two large wooden columns aligned along the sides of the prayer hall. A marble mihrab is located in the center of the hall, flanked by arabesques and calligraphic inscriptions. The mosque also holds several other areas for prayer, including a library and women’s prayer space. The courtyard is decorated with two colorful Ottoman-style vaults ornamented with mosaic tiles, and a large central dome. The interior walls are decorated with colorful tiles in a variety of blue, green, and red hues. The mosque also holds a dome dating back to the 14th century.
