Al Khabourah Mosque is the first mosque in Muscat, the capital city of Oman. It was built in the 17th century and is also known as the Al Amani Mosque. It was erected by Imam Sultan bin Seif Al Ya'rubi and is said to have been constructed in less than one year. The mosque is located inside the old Muscat city wall near the city gate of the same name, Al Khabourah Gate. It has two floors, the upper one ending in a muezzin's gallery set in a dome. The interior courtyard contains a qibla wall indicating the direction of Mecca. There is also an octagonal dome which stands in front of seven columns at the entrance to the mosque. The mosque has a single Minaret. The mosque has undergone renovations over the years and is now a popular tourist attraction in Muscat. Its most distinctive feature is the impressive minaret located at the front of the structure. The minaret is slender and tall, reaching up towards the sky and providing beautiful views of the city. Inside the mosque, visitors can find several intricately decorated prayer halls, as well as a library, a madrassa, and a few smaller prayer and study rooms.
