Al Kamil East Mosque (also known as Masjid al-Kamil) is a historical mosque located in the city of Sur, Oman. Built in the late 18th century during the Yemeni occupation (1789-1808), the mosque is also known as the Grand Mosque or Sur’s Grand Mosque. The mosque was built on foundations of an older mosque that preceded it, most likely from the 12th century. The mosque served as the center of religious and political life in Sur during the Yemeni Occupation and symbolized the victory of the Arabian Peninsula’s liberation from the Portuguese. The mosque consists of a large open courtyard and a square prayer hall with four domes. The entrance of the mosque is decorated with intricate carvings of floral designs.
