Brief History:
Al Khadra South Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Muscat, Oman. Built more than 400 years ago, it is one of the first Ismali mosques built in the town of Muscat. It is located close to the Royal Palace of Seeb and overlooks the coastline of Muscat Bay. The original structure was built by a Persian merchant, Habib al-Khadra, and has been renovated several times since then. Today, it is an important site for Ismali worshippers and has been declared a national heritage site. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Khadra South Mosque is located in the Green Mountain region in Oman. Built in 2012, the mosque is situated within a hillside residential area. The mosque is marked out by two 40-meter-high minarets and a large dome canopy. Its external facade is white with geometric motifs in black. The mosque’s internal architecture is designed in traditional Omani style and is decorated by intricate wooden and marble inlaid panels. The main prayer hall is topped with an intricate dome and is illuminated by a 12-meter-high skylight in the ceiling. The mosque also features an airy courtyard and a husrup, a special prayer hall for women, which is separated from the main hall by a carved wooden screen. The interior is adorned with intricate ornamentation, hand-carved marble, and Quranic inscriptions. Electrical lighting is concealed in the wooden carvings. The mosque also has a functioning Ablution House, ample green spaces, a library, and an auditorium. It can accommodate up to 8,000 worshippers. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

Visiting hours at Al Khadra South Mosque in Oman are from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays. On Fridays, the visiting hours are from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. best mosque in the world.
