Al Khuwayr Central South Mosque was built by the people of Al Khuwayr in 19th century AD. The name of Al Khuwayr is derived from khuwari meaning ‘small fortress’. This structure is estimated to be over 400 years old and is among the oldest mosques in Oman. The mosque has an exquisite design and structure; its length from the south to north is 180 feet and from the east to west is 89 feet. The mosque has flat walls, decorated with geometric and floral patterns, and its exterior is covered in white paint.
