Brief History:
Al Khuwair Mosque is located in Muscat, the capital of Oman. It is one of the oldest mosques in the country and, as a result, embodies a rich history. The mosque was probably built in the late 16th century and is currently believed to be the oldest surviving brick building in Muscat. Al Khuwair is a unique example of early Islamic architecture, featuring a sixteen-sided domed structure surrounded by four minarets and two towers. The building has been fully restored and renovated, and continues to be a popular site for worshippers. Other noteworthy features include a stepped minbar, or pulpit, and intricately carved woodwork on the doors and inside the mosque. The Al Khuwair Mosque is an iconic mosque located in Muscat, Oman. It is a large, rectangular-shaped mosque with two minarets, a combined dome and roof, and four pillars. The design of the mosque is credited to the architect Abdullah Sadik Ali. The mosque was designed in the traditional Omani architectural style, using a range of different materials in its construction including brick, sandstone, limestone, and marble. The walls of the mosque are whitewashed and adorned with intricate wooden carvings. The entrance to the mosque is through the ornate wooden doors, which are framed by two towering minarets. Inside, there is a prayer hall with a raised carpeted platform for the imam, along with an enclosed area for women. A cascading fountain is positioned in the middle of the courtyard. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
Visiting Hours:
Al Khuwair Mosque in Oman offers a visitation period from Saturday to Thursday, from 8:00am to 12:00pm, and from 4:00 pm to 6:00pm. On Fridays, the visitation period is from 8:00am to 11:00am. best mosque in the world.
