Brief History:

Al Hail Mosque in Muscat, Oman, is a modern mosque constructed in 2010 under the patronage of Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The mosque is situated in an area previously known as Al Hail, one of the oldest districts in Oman. Prior to the mosque’s construction, Al Hail was home to a palace of the same name which was built during the 17th century by Ahmad bin Said al Busaidi, the founder of the Busaidi dynasty which ruled Oman until 1970. The palace was destroyed in a 2012 earthquake, which also severely damaged the neighboring Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. The modern mosque sits on approximately three acres of land and stands two stories tall. The mosque, constructed with white marble, is flanked by two minarets with a total height of 43 meters. The main prayer hall has seating for 930 worshippers and the building includes two gardens. The mosque features a unique electronic prayer system, a first in Oman, that is regularly used to call worshippers to prayer. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.

The mosque features a rectangle-shaped main building with a central dome, flanked by two minarets located on either side of the entrance. Inside, the main prayer hall is surrounded by four courtyards and contains a marble mihrab (niche signifying the direction to pray). Other features of the mosque include a library, decorations with traditional saffron interiors, and a lecture hall.
