The Shahi Masjid in Kanyakumari is a 17th century Mosque, credited with being the first mosque of Kanyakumari. It is located at the entrance of the fishing village known as Vettuvenni. The mosque was built by Malik Deenar, an Arab saint and Sufi. He had communicated with the local ruler, the Raja of Travancore, to seek his permission and assistance to construct the mosque. He received the Raja's permission and assistance to build the Mosque. The mosque has been built in the traditional Arab architectural style. It has a dome-shaped roof and four minarets that rise to a height of approximately 21 meters. The mosque also has pillars, windows, and arches made from laterite stones, while the exterior walls have been made using a combination of granite and laterite stones. The inside of the mosque has been decorated with exquisite artwork, which includes fine floral work and scroll designs done in the traditional South Indian Style.
