Kuti Group of Temples In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
The Kuti Group of Temples in Karnataka, India is an amazing complex of Hindu temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, Surya and other gods from the Puranic pantheon. This group of temples includes more than 20 historical temples that are believed to have been built somewhere between the 9th and 11th centuries CE. The main shrine has a large mandapa with a large Nandi murti and a Shiva linga. There are two other lesser-known temples in this group, namely the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple and the Shri Vadirajaswamy temple. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most prominent features of the Kuti Group of temples are its intricate carvings and sculptures. The main temple has a majestic entrance, with large mushrooms-like structures on its entrance pointing towards the sky. It also has a large Nandi idol (the vehicle of Lord Shiva) in the entrance, signifying prosperity and abundance. The walls and pillars of the main temple have intricate sculptures of deities and scenes from Hindu mythology, while the other two temples have similar features. Interesting facts:
• The main shrine of the temple complex is believed to have been built during the reign of the Western Chalukya dynasty, but this is yet to be corroborated by archaeological evidence. • One of the unique features of the Kuti Group of temples is the idols of local gods and goddesses which are installed on the exterior walls.
