Dakhil darwaza In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
darwaza is an ancient gate entrance, located in the city of Jaunpur in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was one of the three grand entrance gates of Jaunpur, built by Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq in 1354. Dakhil darwaza is an example of three-arched gateway structure of that period, which makes it a prominent structure of the city. History:
Dakhil darwaza stands out amongst the three grand entrances, as it consists of a fourth arch. This extra arch, which is the middlemost one of the four arches, has a significantly larger size as compared to the other three arches. The three arches on either side of the grand arch are smaller and precise in size. In the area below the arches, an inscribed stone slab has been kept in which there is an inscription describing how the structure was erected by Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq. The structure is believed to have been built by Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq, the then ruler of Delhi. According to archaeological evidence, the entrance was built sometime in 1354. The structure initially acted as a gateway to Jaunpur, which was an important city during the reign of the Sultan. Though the inscriptions point to late medieval period it is still speculated that the structure may have also been built either before Firoz Shah Tughlaq or immediately after his reign came to end.
