Barsi gate In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
The Barsi gate is an imposing 18th-century structure of great historical importance. It stands at the entrance of the modern city of Jodhpur and is situated at the southern end of the fort's boundary wall. The Barsi gate is made of red sandstone and is three storeys high. The gate was originally constructed in the 18th century by Maharaja Abhay Singh. The gate is heavily fortified and is known for its intricately designed turrets and battlements. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most prominent feature of Barsi Gate is the eight pointed star-shaped enclosure which is known as 'Chakram' or 'Chakra'. The outer gate is beautifully decorated with carved stones and lattice work. On entering the gate, there is an interior gate which is known as 'Ghantagarh'. The gate also features two massive iron spikes, known as 'Baganas' which were used to prevent enemy access to the fort. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
