Fort St. Angelo is situated in Kalkara, a peninsula that separates Grand Harbour from Marsamxett Harbour. It has a commanding presence in the entrance of Marsamxett Harbour, a body of water that dominates Valletta's skyline across to the North. Fort St. Angelo's main features include its bastions, which were modelled on Italian Military architecture, as well as its dungeons and balconies that look onto Grand Harbour. The fort’s elegant architectural structure has survived many wars, as well as a British naval bombardment in 1798.
