Fort St. Angelo is a fortification guarding the harbour entrance of the city of Birgu, Malta. Founded by the Order of St. John in the early 16th century, it is one of the oldest military installations on the island. It played a prominent role in the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, when it was defended by the Knights of St. John against the Ottoman army. It subsequently served as the headquarters of the Maltese Grand Master, and eventually became a military barracks. It is now part of the Maritime Museum of Malta.
