Overview:
Hawa Mahal is a palace in Jaipur, India, built of pink sandstone in the form of the crown of Lord Krishna. It was constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. The palace has a unique five-story structure and was designed with the intention of enabling ladies of the royal family to watch street processions and festivals happening below, while unseen from the outside. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Hawa Mahal has a unique five-story structure that stands about 50 feet (15 m) in height and is laid out with a pyramidal shape along with 953 small windows decorated with intricate latticework known as jalis. These jalis were designed such that the lightly scented breeze from the sandalwood incense burning can pass through each window gives the feeling of air-conditioning.
