Overview:
The Temple of Nilkantheswara is located in the Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu, South India. It is an important center of pilgrimage for followers of the Hindu religion. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is dedicated to the main deity of Nilkantan, also known as Nepalathal. Nilkantheswara is one of the nine forms of Lord Shiva known as Navarathnas. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple is known for its grandeur, distinctive architecture and intricate carvings. The temple is built in traditional Dravidian style. The magnificent gopuram or entrance tower is the highest structure of its kind in India, rising to a height of about 200 feet. The main shrine of the temple is dedicated to Nilkanta which encircled by five sacred tanks and four gardens. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
