Overview:
The Tomb of Tansen and two Mosque’s is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is a complex consisting of the mausoleum of one of the nine gems of Akbar’s court, the legendary musician and composer Tansen, and two mosque’s. History:
The complex houses a chapel and a baradari, which were the living quarters of Tansen. The two mosque’s were built in 1580, in the Mughal architectural style, with high domes, minarets and ornate decorations. The walls and ceilings of the mausoleum are decorated with beautiful Persian text and quranic verses, and the mausoleum also houses a manuscript of the ancient musician’s compositions. The tomb of Tansen and two mosque’s have been associated with the great musician since 1589 when Akbar, an admirer of his talent, cumulatively built the complex.
