Jama Masjid, Kanpur, India, is one of the oldest mosques in the city and was built by Shaikh Farid, a follower of the great Sufi saint Hazrat Mian Mir of Lahore, in 1760. It was constructed on the site of an old Hindu temple which had been destroyed by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The mosque measures 205 feet in length and has two minarets. Inside the prayer hall, there are five arched doorways and three domes in the shape of a lotus. The mosque is decorated with intricate Mughal architecture and calligraphy.
