Brief History:

Nagore Dargah or Nagore Durgha is a Sufi shrine located in the town of Nagore in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is the burial place of the Sufi saintest Hazrat Syed Shahul Hameed (R.A.). He is also referred to as Nagore Andayar. His main contribution to the people of Nagore and the nearby area was the establishment of the Dargah. According to oral tradition, Hazrat Syed Shahul Hameed visited Nagore in the 15th century. When he arrived at the spot, he received special inspiration and said that this was a place with very special energy. After much deliberation, he decided to settle at that spot and built the Nagore Dargah. The Sultan of Bijapur conferred to Hazrat Syed Shahul Hameed the title of ‘Mu’in-ud-din’ (Giver of Faith). He was the leader of the Chishti order in India. He wrote scholarly works including books on Sufism and land reforms. The revered shrine is one of the few places of religious importance, where Muslims, Hindus, and Christians peacefully co-exist. The Nagore Andayar Jayanthi is celebrated at the Dargah during the Hindu month of Margazhi. This is an annual festival which attracts devotees from all over the country. Thousands of devotees throng the dargah to offer their prayers to Hazrat Syed Shahul Hameed (R.A.) and seek his blessings. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.
