Overview:
Mughal Kos Minar is a tower which was built with bricks during the reign of Akbar at the age of 48 years. It is situated in the town of Fatehpur Sikri, which is located at a distance of 40 km from Agra in Uttar Pradesh. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Mughal Kos Minar is 10 metres high and 2 metres wide. It is built on a 3 m high plinth and is crowned by a domed roof. The walls of the tower are ornately carved with floral and geometric designs of Mughal art. A small chamber at the center of the tower is believed to have been used by Akbar for making astronomical calculations. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

Mughal Kos Minar was commissioned by Akbar's daughter Jahan Aram in 1593 CE. It was meant to be used for taking accurate measurements of the stars which were considered important for forming a comprehensive astronomical calendar. The tower is believed to be designed by a Portuguese astronomer Alfonso de Albuquerque.
