Overview:
The Tomb of Safdarjang (also known as Mirza Muqim Mansur Ali Khan) is an important 18th-century Mughal mausoleum located in Delhi, India. It is a major tourist attraction and an iconic symbol of the city. The tomb was built in 1754 by Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula, son of Safdarjang, for his father Mirza Muqim Mansur Ali Khan. The architecture of the tomb follows the typical Mughal style, with a large entrance gate and a spacious courtyard surrounded by an underground passage. The structure is built entirely of red sandstone and is located in the middle of an extensive garden. It is also known for its excellent views of the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary. History:
The most prominent feature of the Tomb of Safdarjang is the intricately carved doorway, which has been carefully constructed from red sandstone with delicate stonework. The entrance has a crescent shaped dome with a high ceiling and is surrounded by four arms, each having its own external and internal entrance. The outer entrance features a cusped arch which is typical of most Mughal buildings. The inner entrance is made from a double screen of red and yellow sandstone that is adorned with beautiful Islamic calligraphy. Inside the courtyard, there is another dome on a raised platform for the tomb of Mirza Muqim Mansur Ali Khan.
