Architecture:

Al-Maarid Mosque, located in Muharraq in the Kingdom of Bahrain, is one of the oldest mosques in the country and a greatly admired monument of Islamic architecture. The structure itself is characterized by traditional Islamic vernacular architecture, featuring a hypothetically large main entrance gate, rectangular prayer hall, tall minaret and dome-covered roof. The main entrance gate, measuring approximately 8 meters in height, is formed of two L-shaped walls and arches with a pointed tip. Adorned with delicate geometric shapes and designs, it provides a beautiful sight with its exquisite decoration and ornamental features. The prayer hall is rectangular-shaped and measures 29 meters in length and 13 meters in width. It is complemented by an elevated platform served as the pulpit (mimbar) in the front, two windows on the two sides (northern and southern), and the mihrab (niche) in the central wall which points towards Qibla for prayer direction. To ensure a better ventilation, all four walls of the prayer hall have high wall niches. The structure is topped by a traditional cube-shaped dome surrounded by four smaller conical domes, all these decorative domes are topped with simple spires decorated with golden accents. Lastly, the tall minaret, standing at 33 meters in height, is characterized by four arrow-shaped arches and topped by a double-staged crown. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
