Brief History:
: Al-Hajjaj Mosque is an ancient mosque located in the village of Al Hajjaj in Bahrain. The mosque is believed to date back to the 10th century CE and is one of the oldest mosques in the gulf. It is said to have been built during the reign of the Uyunid Dynasty which lasted between 1076-1307. The mosque is said to have been built by Yahya ibn Musa al-Hajjaj, a Uyunid notable. The mosque is a single-aisle structure with a dome and a minaret on either side. The interior of the mosque is made up of a prayer hall and an adjoining interior courtyard. The walls of the mosque are covered with colorful and intricate Kufic inscriptions as well as mihrabs, lintels, and window screens featuring decorative floral and geometric patterns. The mosque serves as an important reminder of Bahrain's Islamic heritage and is a popular site for visitors and locals alike. It is one of the most famous mosque in Bahrain which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al-Hajjaj Mosque was constructed by the Umayyad ruler Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf in Bahrain in the 8th century CE. The mosque is built on a sandstone foundation with sandstone walls and pillars. It has a rectangular shape with a large mihrab (prayer niche) which is situated at the center of the qibla wall (the wall facing Mecca). The mosque is flanked by two smaller mihrabs located at the side walls, and It also had a pulpit near the mihrab. The mosque was decorated with intricate stucco work and architectural ornamentation on the walls. The interior of the mosque also includes a prayer area with brick flooring and a series of arches. The mosque is located in the village of Manama, and it is believed to be the first Islamic building in Bahrain. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

The site is open for visitors every day from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. It is recommended that visitors dress modestly, with women wearing appropriate clothing and headscarves.
