History:

The Leopold Museum, located in the heart of the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, was founded in 1981 by Rudolf Leopold, and is the largest collection of works by the Viennese Art Nouveau painter Egon Schiele. The museum features an extensive collection of Schiele's work, with over 3000 works, including some of the most celebrated pieces. But the museum is not only an important institution for Schiele's art: it also houses more than 650 works by artists from other artistic circles and movements of the 20th century,including Austrian Expressionism, Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, as well as a complete collection of 70 works by Gustav Klimt and a selection of works from the abstract art movements. The Leopold Museum also offers a permanent glass-covered exhibition called "Schiele and His Time – The Brücke Secession", and holds regular exhibitions of various other important 20th century art movements.
