Brief History:

Nusretiye Mosque, also known as Beylerbeyi Mosque, is located in the Beylerbeyi district in the Uskudar district of Istanbul, Turkey. The construction of the mosque began in 1824, on orders from Sultan Mahmud II. The architect was Nikoğos Balyan, a member of the leading Armenian family of imperial court architects in the Ottoman Empire, and it was completed in 1826. It has a single dome, flanked by a pair of minarets. The exterior of the mosque is plain, with a complex and lavishly decorated interior. The mosque is known for its unique style of decoration, combining Ottoman and Baroque elements. It is one of the most famous mosque in Turkey which you must visit.

Architecture:

The mosque follows a typical Ottoman architectural style and comprises an ornate portico, a large rectangular prayer hall, a marble plinth, and a high minaret tower. The facade of the mosque is faced with marble and is flanked with two slender minaret towers. The barrel vault above the entrance gate is decorated with stucco floral elements. The prayer hall is stylishly arranged around four columns that support the dome. The dome is made of brick with a lead covering and supported by arches. The interior features painted tiles, ornate marble monuments, and chandeliers. The dado panels and ceiling of the prayer hall are embellished with Arabic calligraphy and floral motifs. The windows are fitted with stained glass. The mihrab is adorned with gilded stucco ornamentation, and an ornate pulpit stands near the mihrab wall.
