Worship Method:

The worship method of Devarajaswami Temple in Kanchipuram is mainly based on the traditions established by its founder, adiyen Shri Ranganatha. The temple has two main daily rituals – Usha Kalasam and Uthirakalam. Usha Kalasam is a morning puja dedicated to the presiding deity and Uthirakalam is an evening puja which includes listening to invocations and reciting from the Ramayana. Every day 108 kalasams are offered to the main deity using flowers, sandalwood paste, oil, water, Turmeric and rice. This is followed by an aradhanam (offering) with sixteen vessels containing different items such as ghee, sandalwood, jaggery, fruits, and flowers. Amidst the entire puja, chanting of Vedic mantras, hymns and stotras are performed. Finally, asparasam (flower offering) is given to the deity and sacramental food is distributed to the visitors in the temple. Apart from these daily rituals, many other festivals are celebrated in the temple including the Raasaleela Mahotsavam, Vaikunta Ekadesi, Shivarathri and Pavitra Darshanam.
